Business Impact Analysis: Key to Health System Resiliency
Event Information
One of the lessons learned from the numerous ransomware attacks and other security incidents in 2022 was that many healthcare organizations were not prepared to operate under the duress of a security incident. For a healthcare provider to be resilient, it must:
– Understand and document how its technology supports its critical business processes
– Be aware of the clinical impact on patients and the business impact on the organization if these systems are not available
– Based on the above, establish required Recovery Point Objectives and Recovery Time Objectives
– Create business continuity plans that enable the organization to operate at an acceptable level if an interruption occurs
– Test its business continuity, disaster recovery plans, and exercise its incident response plans
